Year-Round“Renounce, O Heart, all rescue, to venture in the sea of Love!” With this warning, Johannes Brahms begins his playful collection of Neue Liebeslieder (New Love Songs) waltzes for chorus and piano four-hands. At turns gloomy and joyous, gentle and boisterous, this most Romantic of music captures “the thousand natural shocks” that accompany any adventure into love. On Saturday and Sunday, March 9 & 10, 2013, Choral Arts Ensemble will perform at Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester, MN, presenting the Brahms and Minnesota composer Dominick Argento’s Odi et amo (I Hate and I Love), a gorgeous, flamboyant setting of poems by Gaius Catullus, who voiced similar conflicted love emotions over 2000 years ago.
