With 19th century settlement came boundary lines, surveys and mapping of new territories. Learn about this process as engineer Don Borcherding takes on the role of Andrew Talcott, a surveyor who in the early 1800s helped establish the boundaries of Ohio, Michigan and the state line between Iowa and Minnesota. Borcherding will talk about the early practice of surveying and explain the "Talcott Method" for determining latitude by observing stars near their zenith. 1 to 2:30 p.m.
