Year-RoundCLIMB FOR A CURE! IDS Stair Climb for Cystic Fibrosis at Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States
Would you climb 1,280 stairs if it meant a child could breathe easier, even live longer? More than 31,000 people have done just that over the past 30 years in the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s “Climb for the Cure.”
On Saturday, February 2, 2013, 1500 people, including those with cystic fibrosis, their families and friends, fitness clubs and over 200 first responders will join together to climb the tallest building in Minneapolis in support of life-saving research, education and care programs to cure cystic fibrosis, a fatal genetic disease that affects lung function.
The Climb kicks off at 7:00am in the Crystal Court at the IDS Center with a Fitness Challenge race between local gyms, personal training studios and cycling groups. One hour later, members of police, fire and EMS departments from Minneapolis, St. Paul and communities throughout the Greater Twin Cities will make their dash the top during the Public Safety Challenge. Once the Public Safety Challenge is complete, the rest of the teams and individual participants will begin their climb.
The competition is fierce for both races, as bragging rights are at stake. One member of the Minneapolis Fire Department has actually completed the climb in just over six minutes.
On the 50th floor of the IDS, climbers will step into a celebration party hosted by 101.3 KDWB that includes a food and prizes for the fastest climbers and the highest fundraisers.
Fitness Challenge – 7AM
Public Safety Challenge – 8AM
General Climb - 9AM – Noon
