“Minnesota at Gettysburg”
This concert, to honor the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, and the gallant bravery and sacrifice of the undefeatable Minnesota First Volunteer Regiment that turned the tide of that battle on July 2nd and 3rd, 1863, will remind us of both the human suffering of the Civil War and the inspiring music that was authored and performed by Americans, both North and South.
Our musical selections, some well known and others hopefully new to listeners, will reveal more than spoken words, the heart and spirit of the dedicated troops on both sides who fought, bled and died in “The War To Save Our Union”.
We stage no cannon or fireworks, but instead share selected readings from unpublished letters to his daughter by Private William H. Bassett, Company E, First Minnesota Volunteer Regiment to give us a first hand account of the war making. These letters are kindly shared with us by his family who later settled in Itasca County.
The Concert is free and open to the public, July 6, 2013 starting at 2 PM and will run about 90 minutes. It is produced to be 100% family oriented for people of all ages, and relies on the delicate words of a father to his daughter to describe his battle experiences.
Persons interested in participating are invited to call or write regarding their experience, instrument and voice range.
