For the January concert Rochester Chamber Music Society brings together an 18-piece ensemble to present three pieces from composers who are significantly influenced by jazz. The Suite for Chamber Orchestra and Jazz Piano Trio (1983) is the fifth in Claude Bolling’s series of eight such works composed between 1975 and 1987 for various solo instruments with jazz trio. Ralph Schornack, piano, Terry Gresser, drums, and Robert S. P. Gardner, bass, make up the trio. La Nouvelle Orleans is Lalo Schifrin’s remarkable woodwind quintet (1987) from the same period. The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires composed by Astor Piazzolla from 1964 to 1970 is both homage to Vivaldi and uniquely characteristic of the tango master’s style. The strings will present the movement Invierno Porteno (Winter), with Kathleen Lamb as soloist.
