Pride and Prejudice
by Jane Austen
directed by Joe Dowling

Marriage is in the air and on the minds of the five Bennet daughters, who are in need of suitable husbands. With the news that nearby Netherfield Park has been leased by wealthy young Mr. Bingley, the matrimonial matchmaking begins with a flourish in the Bennet household and throughout their country neighborhood. Soon enough, Mr. Bingley falls in love with the eldest Bennet, Jane, and the family is hopeful of soon seeing her happily married. Bingley’s friend Mr. Darcy also creates a stir in the neighborhood by his proud and arrogant demeanor, yet he cannot escape a growing attraction to the lively and rebellious Elizabeth Bennet. She is meanwhile drawn to the charming Mr. Wickham, a young man in the militia who has stories to tell of Mr. Darcy’s past. A tangle of mistaken impressions and unexpected revelations keeps Austen’s famous young couple apart until a major social error by the youngest Bennet daughter ironically allows Darcy to swallow his pride and Elizabeth to rethink her prejudice.ing!
