Minnesota hiking offers something for everyone - challenging climbs to waterfalls and views from rocky ridges; winding trails through forests and along waterways where you can find all kinds of Minnesota birds and wildlife; or easy strolls along paved trails.
For the adventure seeker, there are more than 900 miles of Minnesota ATV trails, and more than 20,000 miles of designated snowmobile trails. Minnesota skiing ranges from well-groomed cross-country trails; to exciting downhill venues featuring black diamond runs and terrain parks.

Not surprisingly, water-based activities are a big draw in the "Land of 10,000 Lakes."
All Minnesota State Parks camping and lodging reservations may now be made up to one year in advance, allowing travelers to make plans to stay at a park earlier than under the previous policy. Visitors may book next year's camping vacation during or soon after this year's trip, while their favorite places and campsite is fresh in their mind.
The Mississippi, one of the world's longest and best known rivers, begins as a small stream in the north woods of Minnesota. The river grows as it arcs across northern Minnesota and winds its way south.
Two vast areas of lakes and woods in northern Minnesota were set aside as national forests a hundred years ago. The Superior National Forest, stretching across the Arrowhead region in the northeast tip of the state, was established in 1909 by President Theodore Roosevelt.
Two sites in Minnesota are designated as National Monuments, under protection of the U.S. Park Service, for their cultural and historical significance.
A string of four large lakes along Minnesota's northern border are the heart of Voyageurs National Park, the only national park in the state and one of only a few in the Midwest.
The new geocaching program at Minnesota State Parks has been a big hit, and will feature information on Minnesota wildlife this year.
