Winona Hosts 2012 Governor’s Deer Opener

Governor Mark Dayton participated in the 10th Annual Governor’s Deer Opener which was held November 1-3, in Winona. The event has been held at a variety of locations around the state. This year marks the second time it was held in southeastern Minnesota. The Mississippi River, the bluffs and Winona’s unique community attributes all were part of the event’s success.
Annual partners in the event include the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association in conjunction with Explore Minnesota Tourism and the Department of Natural Resources. Special thanks to the community of Winona for their partnership and for the special assistance they provided in making the event a success.
Activities included in this year’s opener included a city tour, a Thursday night reception, a field day for the public and local area school children, and the Big Buck lunch. A variety of media outlets then participated in deer hunting on Saturday.
