Our Byway is 54 miles long. That’s just a few steps for me, but for you, that's a lot to explore. So, c'mon along, enjoy a few of my tales and explore the lore of the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway.
This ‘ol Fire Tower, just east of Pequot Lakes, has a few stories of its own. Legend has it that Sassy, the police chief's bear, got stuck up here once.
‘Round about that same time was when Babe and I finished up logging in the area. We turned my camps over to folks wanting to vacation here, and they’ve been coming ever since! Can’t blame ‘em. There are all sorts of places rest and relax.
One of the best parts of my special driving route is the many places to get out and stretch your legs. If you’re up for an adventure, try the Wetlands Walk on the Veterans Trail in Island Lake Woods. Walk out to the island and see where travelers — before my time even — used the spot as a natural look-out area.... And, even a place to make moonshine.
Oh, and now ‘a days, folks also enjoy golfing, boating, fishing, and biking along my Byway. Everyone who visits me is always amazed at how much there is to see and do.
