The Bemidji area is home of the legendary Paul Bunyan and his pet blue ox, Babe. To see Paul for a photo op, visit the Bemidji Visitors Center on the shore of Lake Bemidji. Bemidji has a variety of restaurants and a collection of unique shops including the Bemidji Woolen Mills. Nearby the Headwaters of the Mississippi River begin at Itasca State Park. The giant river begins here as a trickle then flows 2,552 miles into the Gulf of Mexico. This is the only place you can walk across the river on stones! Bring your bikes --the trailhead of the 110 mile Paul Bunyan Trail is in Bemidji State Park.
