The Blue Ox ATV trail uses an abandoned railroad grade with a narrow top, and, in many places, the trail is only slightly above the surrounding ground level. Traversing vast stretches of black spruce swamps and upland aspen stands, the trail provides a scenic ride any season of the year. Major towns along the route are International Falls, Little Fork, Big Falls, and Northome. Impressive crossings of the Little Fork and Big Fork rivers span the old trestle sites.
