Where history & attractions make it worth the trip every time! Located just 1 hour south of Minnesota's Twin Cities on I-35, Owatonna is home to Cabela’s—Minnesota’s second-largest tourist attraction.

Explore the Minnesota State Public School Orphanage Museum, home to more than 10,000 orphans from 1886 to 1945, or the Village of Yesteryear and History Center, or the Reptile & Amphibian Discovery Zoo, one of the world’s largest reptile displays the place for a fun family adventure.

Fans of architecture can visit the Louis Sulllivan-designed bank in downtown Owatonna and Frank Gehry’s Winston Guest House located on the grounds of the Daniel C. Gainey Conference Center.

Stop by the third week in August and enjoy the Steele County Free Fair—Minnesota’s largest free county fair that has been named one of the top events in North America!
With more than 700 acres of parkland and 24 parks in Owatonna, it is a center for people who enjoy outdoor recreation. The very popular Kaplan’s Woods Parkway offers 225 acres for hiking, biking, inline skating, and cross-country skiing—plus Lake Kohlmeier’s beach and fishing docks.

With more than 550 lodging rooms, Owatonna offers accommodations for every type of traveler, as well as a variety of restaurants and unique shops for all tastes and occasions.
