Year-RoundOne of the Midwest's largest and most diverse collections of railroad artifacts. The collection includes one of the world's largest steam locomotives (the Mallet), the first locomotive in Minnesota (the William Crooks), one of the nation's largest displays of dining car china, cabooses, freight cars, a railway post office and much more! Ride the museum's excursion line, the North Shore Scenic Railroad, Memorial Day Weekend through mid-October. Located in the former Duluth Union Depot, the museum features historic locomotives, passenger cars, freight cars, cabooses, maintenance equipment and snowplows!
The collection includes the first locomotive to come
to Minnesota, the William Crooks; the oldest rotary
snowplow in existence; one of the world's largest and
most powerful steam locomotives, the Mallet; and much
more! See one of the country's most significant
collections of railroad dining car china, a working
collection of model trains and during the holiday
season, a working exhibit of Lionel toy trains. During
the summer months ride a vintage electric trolley
past. Depot Square, an exhibit of 22 replicated
storefronts based on Duluth in 1910. Guided tours are
available. Complete your experience with an
unforgettable ride on the museum's excursion train.
