Year-RoundGood birding site, best visited in migration or early summer. Western vagrants are always a good possibility, and there are many good nesting species here as well. Self-guided auto tours and foot trails through the wildlife refuge. Wildlife observation, birding, fishing from riverbank or non-motorized boat on Minnesota River. Interpretive hiking trail, native prairie. Deer, small game and upland game hunting.

From Ortonville, MN Head east 1+ miles on Hwy 75. Sign on right side of road marks auto tour route entrance. Continue east 5+ miles on Hwy 75. Sign on right side of road marks road to Headquarters (just across the railroad tracks.)
