The Gold Portage Wildlife Management Area has 24 acres of northern boreal forest, 900 acres of wetland. Every spring and fall the site is inhabited by migrating waterfowl. Just a few of the wildlife to watch are bald eagles, double-crested cormorants, great blue herons, and American black ducks. Mammals include mink, deer, moose, and black bears. It is highly encouraged that this area be experienced by boat or canoe. Access can be gained by water on Rainy Lake.

Directions

From International Falls, take Hwy 11 east for 10 miles. Turn right on Co Rd 96. Follow this road for two miles to the Rainy Lake Visitor Center.
