Year-RoundA county museum and more, the museum's exhibits tell the story of the Dakota people, the first explorers, cartographers, traders, and Euro-American settlers who came to the Travers des Sioux crossing on the Minnesota River. The interaction of these people laid the historical foundation for the signing of the 1851 Treaty of Traverse des Sioux between the Dakota people and the U.S. government. This ceded 24 million acres of prime land to the U.S. and opened the way to the settlement of the West.
