Southern Minnesota

Southern Region Enlarge Map Download Region Map

The landscapes across the southern region of Minnesota feature a variety of scenery.

The Mississippi River and many small, quiet streams wind their way through scenic valleys nestled among tall, wooded bluffs. The Minnesota River reaches across rich farmland. Here and there are patches of prairie, remnants of the grasslands that once blanketed this land.

The spirit and traditions of the Dakota Indians and early pioneers are recalled at numerous historic sites. Southern Minnesota communities are known for their antique shops, historic architecture, and ethnic festivals. Trout streams, fishing lakes, and bike trails provide outdoor fun, and there are even cave tours for underground exploring.

Among the top attractions are the National Eagle Center, the Pipestone National Monument, the SPAM Museum, the Minnesota Marine Art Museum of and the Commonweal Theater. Come visit southern Minnesota; you'll be surprised at how much you find to see and do!

Find out more about the various areas of Southern Minnesota: the Minnesota River Valley, Mississippi Bluff Country, Prairie Land and Southern Lakes.
