About

11th Annual Bioblitz
Sax-Zim Bog

Anyone interested in learning more about the biodiversity of the Bog is invited to join experts in their fields for day-long field trips. Field trip options include emphasis on insects, spiders, butterflies, birds, plants, galls, moths, aquatic species, and fungi. We have now recorded over 3200 species in the Greater Sax-Zim Bog and we always add to this total during every BioBlitz.

Participants will meet at the Friends of Sax-Zim Bog Welcome Center at 8793 Owl Avenue in Toivola MN at 9:00 a.m. Participants will choose their field trip and spend the day learning, exploring, and documenting what they find. The groups will gather back at the Welcome Center around 2:00 p.m. to discuss their discoveries and share their best finds.

This event will take place outdoors. Expect varied weather conditions, biting insects (which will be documented), and walking over uneven terrain. Bring swampers if you have them. People who are interested in volunteering to be a part of the field trip groups are encouraged to register through the Sax-Zim Bog website.

There is no cost to participating in this event. All ages are welcome!

“BioBlitzes are a Blast! Not only do you get to go in the field with an expert in a specific aspect of
natural history (spiders, birds, flowers, dragonflies, etc), but you get to share your findings with
the groups afterwards. And hearing about all the exciting finds across the Bog is the best
part!” Sparky Stensaas, Executive Director, Friends of Sax-Zim Bog
