The goal is not speed but gas mileage. The cars are then entered into a competition sponsored mainly by the Minnesota Technology & Engineering Teachers Association. The competition is held at BIR in May. In Basic Auto the students are taught basic maintenance and care of their automobiles. Mr. Hedquist covers most of the systems in an automobile and has had students go on to become auto mechanics and body repair technicians after taking this class. They also have a 4-post lift so they can do oil changes and wheel and tire work! In Small Engines they cover everything from single cylinder up to how a car is operated using 8 cylinders. The students learn about the construction of a small engine, and then all of the systems that make a small engine run. They even include information on outboard motors as we are right here on the river. Help the Kittens help the car kids of WK and have a great time doing it at their 3rd Annual Wabasha Riverboat Days Car Show!!** All vehicles must be 1989 or older to enter the show! It is free to spectate! Interested in sponsoring a trophy for this year's event? Reach out to [email protected] for more information!
