Annual Civil War Symposium

We are pleased to announce the upcoming Civil War Symposium at the Litchfield Opera House, 136 N Marshall Ave, Litchfield, MN. Saturday, April 27, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

The theme for the day is “Perspectives on What This Cruel War Was Over" with speakers Dr. Chandra Manning, Dr. Stefan Lund, and Danelle Erickson.

The host city of Litchfield, located in Meeker County, is home to one of the last remaining G.A.R. Halls in Minnesota. In addition to the various presentations, attendees will have an opportunity to tour the historic G.A.R. Hall. The G.A.R., or Grand Army of the Republic, was a Civil War veterans’ organization along the lines of today’s American Legion.

Admission: $20
Admission and catered lunch: $35
Add-on motor coach transport from Twin Cities: $10
Registration for lunch and transport must be made by April 1.

This event is presented under the leadership of the Twin Cities Civil War Round Table and Meeker County Museum at the G.A.R. Hall with the support of the Civil War Round Tables from Rochester, Cannon Valley, Central Minnesota, Hiawatha Valley, Minnesota Valley, and Albert Lea.
