The Bemidji Brass Quintet will perform on Thursday, December 14 at 7 p.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church in Park Rapids. Members of the group are Kyle Riess, trumpet; Alyssa Konecne, trombone; Jeff Johnson, bass trombone; Eve Sumsky, horn; Scott Guidry, trumpet.
The Bemidji Brass was formed in 2017, a vision of Kyle Riess, to create a brass ensemble in the area, providing the opportunity to play brass chamber music.
The group was composed of student and community members, and has evolved to include adult members of the Bemidji Symphony Orchestra and other local groups. The Bemidji Brass Quintet is formed from members of the Bemidji Brass and has rotated many different players in different roles.
The quintet enjoys performing a diverse selection of music including hymns, musical theater and cinema, contemporary, jazz, and standard brass quintet repertoire.
The group performs at various venues in the Bemidji and Park Rapids areas, including local and state parks, Bemidji Brew and local coffee house, the university, graduations, hospital, senior living facilities, and has been a regular guest of the Bemidji Area Church Musicians recitals each summer for several years.
The Bemidji Brass Quintet is one of a very few ensemble groups in this area to consistently provide free musical performances for the community.
