Books From Our Shelves: In the Garden of Beasts

About

Join the Dakota County Historical Society for our monthly book club, "Books From Our Shelves." Each book selected relates to an aspect of Minnesota history.

May's book is "In the Garden of Beasts," by Erik Larson.

Set in 1933 Berlin, William E. Dodd became America's first ambassador to Hitler's Germany. Dodd and his family, which includes his wife, daughter and son, make their trip to Germany where the parties and pomp entrance them, especially their children. As evidence of Jewish persecution mounts, confirmed by chilling first-person testimony, Dodd telegraphs his concerns to the State Department back home. What began as excitement for their new home, it quickly turns to fear as more and more stories begin to circulate. Award winning author Erik Larson uses historic research to weave an unforgettable story about Hilter's Berlin, as Germany and the entire world teeter on the brink of war.

Books From Our Shelves is a monthly book club that meets on the second Thursday of each month listed below. Each session runs from 7 p.m. - 8 p.m.
