About

Join the Dakota County Historical Society for our monthly book club, "Books From Our Shelves." Each book selected relates to an aspect of Minnesota history.

February's book is "Mrs. Ambassador: The Life and Politics of Eugenie Anderson," by Mary Dupont.

Please note, author Mary Dupont will be in attendance during this event to share insights into her research and writing of this book!

Eugenie Anderson was a daughter, sister, wife, mother and diplomat from Red Wing, Minn. She played many roles in a life that virtually spanned the twentieth century. Motivated by concern over the rise of communism, Anderson brought energy and eloquence to the Democratic-Farm-Labor Party, becoming a friend and lifelong adviser to Hubert Humphrey. She achieved historic diplomatic status when President Harry Truman appointed her the first woman ambassador for the United States with a post to Denmark in 1949. Explore Eugenie Anderson's life through this excellent book, written by her granddaughter, Mary Dupont.

Books From Our Shelves is a monthly book club that meets on the second Thursday of each month listed below. Each session runs from 7 p.m. - 8 p.m.
