About

Dakota City is planning for 2021 to have our regular Christmas In The Village event. Get in the Holiday spirit by stepping back in time to our 1900's rural Minnesota village and experience living history firsthand with costumed interpreters and demonstrations. Listen to the jingling of the bells on the horse-drawn trolley as it transports you along the gravel streets so you can see the Village decorated for a 1900s Victorian Christmas, with trees in all the buildings and lights outside. Feel the crisp winter air on your cheeks, then warm up inside by an inviting wood-burning stove. Children can visit with our Victorian St. Nick in the depot. Visitors can watch cooking demonstrations in the Harris House, listen to choirs and individuals as they provide holiday music in the church, delight in the demonstrations of the blacksmith, carpenter and printers in their shops and experience so much more as they wander in and out of the historical buildings. Parents can help their children make old-fashioned ornaments and decorations, and everyone can experience life of a bygone era. Once again a special treat will be two performances per day of "A Christmas Carol", presented by the Children's Castle Theater of Farmington/Lakeville. More information can be found on our website at www.dakotacity.org or Facebook page. Spend a leisurely pre-holiday outing with us. Hot food and refreshments are available to purchase in the Drug Store.

Christmas in the Village is a community favorite, an annual event you won’t want to miss!

Or tour the holiday lights driving through the 1900's village any evening during December.
