About
Circus Juventas will flip, tumble, and soar
through the seasons in Solstice, the award-winning youth
performing arts circus school’s third annual holiday show. Performances run weekends,
Dec. 9 through 18, under the big top, 1270 Montreal Avenue, St. Paul, MN. Tickets
go on sale 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14. Tickets are $25 for children, $35 for
adults, and are available at https://circusjuventas.showare.com/
From the opening candle-lit procession filling
the darkness in honor of Santa Lucia, to the glittering snow-cascading finale,
Circus Juventas will take audiences on a Nordic-inspired adventure that
celebrates all seasons – but especially winter (yes, winter!) – with the dazzling physical feats and artistry
that has won Circus Juventas numerous awards and accolades during their 27
years as the nation’s preeminent youth circus arts organization. And their
prestige has earned yet another mark of distinction. Circus Juventas will be an
official Cirque du Soleil training and
talent development school. Coach Robert Dawson, a 16-year-year veteran
performer with Cirque du Soleil, made the announcement on Saturday at the
annual Circus Juventas Gala.
Solstice storyline
As forest creatures prepare for the winter
solstice celebration, trouble arises when Jack Frost is kidnapped by the Summer
Sorcerer who is determined to usher in an age of eternal summer. It is up to
the caretakers of the seasons to free Jack and ring winter’s sparkling snowy magic.
Rachel Butler Norris, assistant artistic director, coach, and artistic
department manager, crafted this whimsical tale, inspired by Nordic traditions
that celebrate winter. Writing and co-directing Solstice, along
with her mother, Betty, marks the younger Butler’s growing responsibilities as
she prepares to co-lead the organization her parents, Dan and Betty Butler
co-founded in 1994.
“This one hour production offer a
light-hearted holiday story perfect all ages, including anyone who has been curious
about Circus Juventas, but may not have been able to get tickets to one of our sold-out
summer shows,” said Elizabeth “Betty” Butler, Circus Juventas Co-Founder and
Artistic Director. “Prepare to be wowed by our young aerialists and acrobats
and laugh along with the characters’ hijinks as the story unfolds.”
Solstice will take place
without intermission, but festive treats and hot cocoa will be available for
purchase before the start of each show.
