Keep Minnesota’s Community Cats Warm this Winter
Build Cat Shelters at Ruff Start Rescue
Saturday, January 17
WHAT: Build Community Cat Shelters at Ruff Start Rescue
Ruff Start Rescue is hosting a family-focused volunteer event to make community cat shelters for unowned cats who live outdoors in Minnesota. Community cats, also called feral or stray cats, are generally not socialized. They live full, healthy lives with their feline families (called colonies) in their outdoor homes. Because these animals would not do well as indoor pets, Ruff Start Rescue works to provide resources to support them outdoors.
This program includes education about community cats and trap/neuter/release (TNR) programs. Participants will also be provided with supplies to build warm shelters for outdoor cats in our communities. These easy-to-make shelters provide cover from the wind and a source of warmth (straw insulation) that can save the life of a cat outside on its own.

About Ruff Start Rescue
Founded in 2010, Ruff Start Rescue is a foster-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit companion animal rescue that primarily serves communities throughout the state of Minnesota, as well as states in the south with severe pet overpopulation. The nonprofit rescues stray, neglected, abandoned, and surrendered dogs and cats as well as ferrets, guinea pigs, rabbits, and other critters. Most of Ruff Start Rescue’s work is accomplished by a complex network of volunteers, fosters, and supporters, all of whom come together to save thousands of animals each year, more than 35,000 since its inception!
