About
Nicholas R. Brewer (1857-1949) was born in Olmstead County in the Minnesota Territory, came to maturity during the Gilded Age, and became one of Minnesota's most celebrated portrait and landscape painters.
With only scant formal training, Brewer quickly earned recognition in Minnesota, New York, and Chicago. A personal friend of James J. Hill, Brewer often brought students to Hill’s home on Summit Avenue to view his art collection. His later career took him across the country, from California to Florida, exhibiting his work and lecturing to an appreciative public.
Eternal Beauty highlights Nicholas Brewer's remarkable career with more than 30 paintings drawn from the Society's permanent collection and from several private collections.
