extra/ordinary

About

Discover never-before-displayed artifacts from the American Swedish Institute's collection and the untold stories that make them truly extraordinary in this playful new exhibition. Visitors can draw on the walls of the museum, discover a 20-foot-tall Dala horse and so much more as they explore the many rooms of the historic Turnblad Mansion – including some that will be open to the public for the first time in decades.

What makes that teacup so special? In extra/ordinary, the object is on display, but its story is the star of the show. Visitors of all ages will see artifacts from ASI’s permanent collection paired with the original art they inspired for the new picture book "A to Zåäö: Playing with History at the American Swedish Institute," illustrated by local artists Tara Sweeney and Nate Christopherson. In extra/ordinary, the curious cast of characters from A to Zåäö become the storytellers, inviting visitors to discover the meaning and significance behind each object through experiences both familiar and unexpected.
