About

Walker Art Center and Northrop Present: Le Patin Libre

Vertical Influences

Le Patin Libre breaks the mold by challenging the conventions of traditional figure skating through their innovative style that draws influences from theatre, street dance, and tap. From humble beginnings creating routines on the frozen ponds and canals of their hometown Montreal, these five performers have created a witty and inspired one-hour spectacle that uses the ice in daring and dazzling ways.

Includes a separate excerpt performance of Tracing Steps, a new work by Twin Cities–based Brownbody, which the ensemble describes as “Black social dances from centuries of slavery in America that are translated to the ice." Free tickets for Brownbody’s performance are available on-site one hour before the program, which is at 4:00 pm Thu, Apr 25.

DRESS WARMLY, as audiences will be seated on the ice for a thrilling "up-close" view of this ice-dance treat.

"You watch, dazzled, as the five-strong collective compete against each other, flirting, mock-fighting, dragging skates backwards, seemingly against gravity." - Evening Standard

"Watching Le Patin Libre is like dreaming about flying - it is a liberating, exhilarating, breath taking experience. This quintet of former professional figure skaters have freed themselves from the shackles of sequins and judged technical perfection to create a new kind of ice dance." - The Stage
