About

Veterans Memorial Hall, a program of the St. Louis County Historical Society, will unveil Minnesota artist Charles Kapsner's Air Force tribute painting on August 22nd at the Duluth Depot. The painting will be on display through August 26th just outside Veterans Memorial Hall and will be available for viewing between 9am and 6pm. Kapsner will be available at times to answer questions and speak to the public.

This is the final in a series of five paintings honoring the women and men of each military branch. Regional in location but national in scope, the paintings uniquely portray the stories, faces, and sacrifices of our nation’s servicewomen and men. Kapsner’s paintings are larger than life and well received by the families of military service veterans. Veterans and active duty military members served as models for the painting which includes Brig. Gen. Sandra Best, the first woman ever promoted to Brigadier General in either the Minnesota National Guard or Air Guard.

Kapsner previously created tribute paintings for the Army, Navy, Coast Guard and Marines. The temporary exhibition is an 8 foot by 10 foot oil painting, will include appearances by the artist and other military dignitaries. The painting will be on dis-play at the Depot outside of the Veterans Memorial Hall from 9am—6pm . All the paintings will be on permanent display in the Committal Hall at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.
