About

Glensheen will open for daily tour operations again on March 1, 2021. Glensheen will be open seven days a week from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm for self-guided Christmas tours through March 28, 2021.

2020 can’t dampen the Christmas spirit at the Mansion. Glensheen is throwing out the rule book on Christmas and recreating the magic of the holiday season by bringing back the 25 Christmas trees and 25 hidden elves with a few twists. All of the holiday decorations are still up and the magic of the Christmas season will live on! During the lockdown, we did some things to make Glensheen even better...

NEW - This time around, there are more elves that have snuck their way into the mansion. They have named themselves the Mischievous Little Elves. They are hiding in much trickier hiding places than their original fellow elf counterparts. These additional Mischievous Little Elves make for over 50 hidden elves in the mansion. This is the next level elf hunt. Seriously… you may call this an “older child” elf hunt. This epic Elf Hunt wouldn’t be complete without a prize. The master elf spies can claim their “Elf Hunt Master” status at the end of the tour for their prize. The General Admission tour is the best tour for families to I-spy all of the elves.

NEW - Glensheen is also adding a new throwback to the Congdon Christmas era. As an ode to the Congdon family tradition of celebrating Christmas in the Amusement Room. Here we’ve added ANOTHER Christmas tree that was inspired by a historic photo. The photo recently resurfaced during lockdown collection research providing a richer picture of the Congdon family’s holiday celebrations. In a normal year at Glensheen, Christmas parties would take place in this room. This amusement room re-creation is only possible because of COVID. So this re-creation probably won’t exist next year.

The beauty of lockdown and being closed to the public is that the mansion is now literally shining. Glensheen Housekeeping staff has been busy doing another round of deep-dive cleaning projects. The floors and brass fixtures have been carefully polished and brought back to their 1910 glow. There are countless other ways that the mansion has been meticulously cared for in recent weeks. Glensheen hasn’t looked this good at Christmas probably since Chester lived in the mansion. You have to see it to believe it.

Although the holiday months have passed, Glensheen is extending the holiday tour season to help shine a bright spot on an otherwise difficult year. To take a new spin on Christmas, the revived holiday season at Glensheen is being dubbed “The Never-Ending Christmas” as a nod to the mystical movie series, The NeverEnding Story from the 80s and early 90s, giving guests a sense of magical escapism while on tour. Who knows, maybe Falkor will make an appearance on tour!

Self-guided tour options include the self-guided Classic Tour (previously called General Admission, Full Mansion, and Grounds Admission. Due to COVID capacities, tickets are only available for purchase onsite. Learn more at glensheen.org
