New to Mia: Art from Chicago

About

Chicago has played a leading role in the development of modern architecture, music, literature, and popular culture. But what about art? This exhibition includes a broad range of art by artists who have called Chicago home. It features recent gifts to Mia’s collection from critic Dennis Adrian and art historian Richard Born, both champions of Chicago art of the 1960s–1980s. Visitors will see art buzzing with comic book references, works that play with conventions of gender and sexuality, and much psychologically charged imagery. Though some of the art will appear outrageous, craft and a careful attention to technique is often its common ground.
