Nihon Teien Matsuri--Japanese Garden Festival

The Normandale Japanese Garden Festival will take place on Saturday, September 21 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The festival will feature traditional food, flute and drum demonstrations, Garden Tours, sword demonstrations, koi feedings, Origami and Ikebana demonstrations, kids activities, Japanese martial arts, boutique shopping and more.

There will also be showings of the special documentary Beyond the Barbed Wire: Japanese Americans in Minnesota. Bud Nakasone, Veteran, U.S. Army Military Intelligence Service, will speak, while St. Olaf College Professor Ka Wong will talk about the film.

The festival will also include archery (MN Kyudo Renmei), karate (South Metro Authentic Ancient Arts) and sword (Seiryukan Dojo) demonstrations. Other performances will also include Harisen Daiko drummers, Taikollaborative drums, Sansei-Yonsei Kai Kimono Shows and Dance Performances and Shakuhachi Flute with Leo Hansen.

There will also be a Koi Auction by the Midwest Koi Club and koi feedings. Asian Invasion food truck will also be at the event, along with other food options. For more information go to www.normandale.edu/japanesegarden later this summer.
