Our Army Nurses: Northern Women Answer the Call
Presented by Daniel Hoisington
Presented by Daniel Hoisington
The Civil War saw a great transition from lowly status for nurses to the postwar era when it became recognized as a profession. Hoisington will look at the role of nurses during the Civil War, including the status of nurses within the military, what they did, what they wore, and how they fought for pensions in later years.
Historian Daniel J. Hoisington has edited three books about Civil War nurses, written histories of two Minnesota Schools of Nursing, and served a contributing editor of the Citizen’s Companion: The Voice of Civilian reenacting. He is a graduate of Greenville (Ill.) University and holds a M.A. from the University of Virginia.
The Litchfield Civil War Roundtable meets every 2nd Thursday of the month at 1:30 in the historic G.A.R. Hall.
Free for Roundtable members; $3 general admission.
