About

Grief can shut us down; writing poems can help to open us up again. In this workshop, instructor Michelle Meyer will read poems about loss from her new book The Trouble With Being a Childless Only Child and use them as prompts to write our own poems about the people/things/places/ideas we’ve lost or are grieving through several poetic techniques including erasure poetry, list poetry, and Cento or “patchwork” poetry.By the end of the session, you'll not only have learned new poetic techniques but will likely leave with several pieces of your own creation, symbols of your resilience and capacity for healing through the written word.Join us to unlock the restorative power of poetry and turn your experiences into meaningful art.Time: 2 - 4 PMTeaching artist: Michelle MeyerAll levels are welcome.Age: 18+Please bring a notebook or journal, your favorite pen, and a good pencil.Author Bio:Michelle Meyer is the author The Trouble with Being a Childless Only Child (Cornerstone Press, 2024) and The Book of She (2021), a poetry and visual art collaboration devoted to women.
