Racial Covenants and Redlining (In Person or by Zoom)

About

Redlining and racial covenants are two of the practices that enforced racial segregation in the US, both within and outside states that had Jim Crow laws. The Education Committee of the Rochester Branch NAACP coordinated a team of volunteers who researched Olmsted County property records and found 1,024 lots with racial covenants. We suspect that there are many more. The presentation will display maps of where redlining occurred and where we have found racial covenants. We will discuss other forms of historic and current residential discrimination and discuss the enduring impact on wealth inequality and home ownership.

This program is offered both in person or by Zoom.  Be sure to obtain the ticket that fits you best at olmstedhistory.com/events.
