About

The story of "western expansion" is fraught with US government agents who, through duplicity and force, persuaded Native Americans to sign treaties that gave away their rights to the land. But there is a deeper story of the land speculators, bureaucrats, missionaries, and politicians who used treaties to forcibly remove indigenous Minnesotans and clear a path for the relentless pursuit of their own interests and ambitions.

Join Martin Case, MNHS Press author of The Relentless Business of Treaties: How Indigenous Land Became US Property, to explore the history of treaties between the US government and Native American people.
