About
The winter holiday season is upon us! And what better way to start than with the Mississippi Valley Orchestra’s annual holiday concert? There’ll be “Forest of Firs” from The Nutcracker, Leroy Anderson’s ever-popular Christmas Festival, Henry Charles Smith’s Christmas Sing-Along, and, of course, Sleigh Ride.
But wait, there’s more!
Did you know that 2019 marks the 100th anniversary of the Irish Declaration of Independence? We’re commemorating the event with Irish composer Charles Stanford’s Irish Rhapsody #1. What says winter holidays more than a ballet where a telegraph system comes to life in the Eiffel Tower? Hear for yourself when we play Germaine Tailleferre’s Waltz of the Telegraphs. And hear our own musical heritage in American composer George Chadwick’s Symphonic Sketches, including a movement written for the birth of his son, Noël. And to top it all off, a world premiere: MVO violinist and composer Mark Hellem’s Winter.
Come at 2:15 for Artistic Director Ho-Yin Kwok’s pre-concert talk—and to get an ideal parking spot.
The concert is free, and so is the parking.
As always, donations are gratefully accepted.
Do join us.
