After receiving a record number of applicants, Heartland Symphony Orchestra’s competition judges recently selected Robin Butler, of Arlington, Illinois as winner of the 2024 Composition Competition. His original work, "Wings of Freedom" will be performed by Heartland Symphony Orchestra as part of their spring concert series on Saturday, April 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Little Falls at the Charles D. Martin Auditorium of Little Falls Community High School, and on Sunday, April 7 at 2:30 p.m. at Gichi-ziibi Center for the Arts in Brainerd. HSO Music Director Ryan Webber describes “Wings of Freedom” as a cinematic piece expected to capture the audience.

The Composition Competition is held by Heartland Symphony Orchestra every other year, alternating with the Youth Concerto Competition. Heartland Symphony Orchestra is a 50 piece volunteer, nonprofit, community orchestra serving the communities of Brainerd and Little Falls. Among other various selections, the program will also feature soloist Miriam Webber, Principal Bassoon, in the world premiere of the orchestra setting of Lindsey Wiehl's The Letter and the Envelope.

Conductor Chats will be held 45 minutes prior to each concert. All ages welcome. No tickets necessary. Admission is free with donations graciously accepted at the door or at heartlandsymphony.com

These concerts are made possible by the voters of Minnesota through grants from the Minnesota State Arts Board and the Five Wings Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund. In Little Falls, the Laura Jane Musser Fund provides additional support.
