About
St. Paul JCC Symphony Orchestra is proud to present their second 2018-19 season concert on Wednesday, March 13 at 7 pm.
This concert's repertoire includes Symphony No. 6 in D Major by Antonin Dvorak, "Water Music" Suite by Georg F. Handel & arranged by Hamilton Hardy and Three Dances from Henry VIII (music for the Shakespeare play) by Edward German. This concert is full of dance-derived music, played with the rich colors of a symphony orchestra.
The Dvorak is original music, a sunny piece full of catchy melodies, capturing the style of folk song and dance. It's a broad, masterful symphonic work with an immediacy about it that engages both the "novice" listener and the classical music connoisseur. The Handel Water Music is Baroque music clothed in 20th century orchestration. The Henry VIII dances are lesser known, but thoroughly engaging pieces.
One of the oldest community orchestras in the United States, the St. Paul JCC Symphony Orchestra has a 90+ year tradition of excellence. The 45-piece, volunteer orchestra practices and performs classical and modern repertoire selected by music director and conductor, Amir Kats, who is in his seventh season leading the St. Paul JCC's Symphony Orchestra.
"We are so proud and fortunate to have the Orchestra here at the St. Paul JCC," said Robyn Awend, JCC Twin Cities Cultural Arts Director. "It is a true gem. And, the completion of our new cultural arts wing is the perfect venue for this beautiful music."
The concert will take place at the Paul JCC’s new Johnson Family Center for the Performing Arts. Prior to the concert, there will be Conductor's Talk with Amir Kats.
The concert is free and open to the public.
