All Aboard for all-ages fun at the James J. Hill House!
Come check out the impressive mansion railroad tycoon James J. Hill built, the brand new Call of Trains photography exhibit in the art gallery, and enjoy a variety of fun activities throughout the day:
- Drawing and poetry workshop by Pat Bauer and David Geister (author and illustrator of Making Minnesota) at 10:30 am* (offered only on Saturday, May 13)
- Bluegrass music concert with train-related numbers by Brotherhood of Birds at 11 am and 1 pm (45 minutes sessions)
- Learn the train whistle code
- Train-themed selfie station
- A special lecture by Alex Weston, Hill House Program Associate, on hobo culture, “Hoboes, Tramps, Vagabonds, and Bindlestiffs: The Real Making of the American West” at 2 pm* (Offered both on Saturday, May 13 and Sunday, May 14)
- Kids train tables
- Informational booth by Minnesota Transportation Museum, Operation Lifesaver (Rail Safety Education), and MnDOT Northern Lights Express project
- And so much more!
The House will be open 10 am–4 pm. Guided tours are not available during Train Days, however the home will be available for self-guided visitation.
*Sensory Friendly Day is hosted on Saturday, May 13, 2023 from 9 - 10 am before the Train Day opens to the general public at 10 am. Follow this link to learn more.
