“The Vikings Begin”

About

"The Vikings Begin" is an exciting exhibition that features dozens of early Viking artifacts from boat graves discovered at a site in central Sweden. These incredibly well-preserved objects, many of which are 1400 years old, tell the story of the rise of the Viking Age - of when, why and how Viking society began, as well as the stores of the people buried with them. The exhibition is based on cutting-edge research that sheds new light on Viking society, the role of women and maritime innovation that allowed the Vikings to reach faraway lands. This collection of artifacts has not been outside of Scandinavia until this year, and the American Swedish Institute is the first museum in the Midwest to host the exhibition.
"The Vikings Begin" is produced by Sweden's Uppsala University and its Gustavianum museum, and presented by Viking.
