About
’Tis the season to be…scary? For thirteen years, the Haunted Basement has built a reputation as one of the top October stops on the Twin Cities scare circuit. Its annual haunt is known for interactive, artist-driven designs and absurdist psychological horror. Now, the local arts nonprofit is spilling its scares beyond the Halloween season. Meet The Workshop.
“In other parts of the country, holiday haunts are super popular,” says Sarah Salisbury, Production Director for Haunted Basement. “While we have this awesome spot, and coming off the success of our thirteenth year, we thought we'd give the holiday haunt thing a try.”
Still lurking in Rosedale Shopping Center’s lower southeast corner, The Workshop will invite brave patrons—18 and older—to explore a disturbing den of yuletide terror.
“A holiday haunt gives us a unique position to look at and explore what frightens people about a time of year that is usually seen as joyous,” says Guy Dalbey-Thomas, one of the show’s several designers. “It also provides an opportunity to comment on the corporate takeover of the season.”
The Workshop will have a limited four-show run, beginning on December 6th. Advance tickets may be purchased at hauntedbasement.org. Walk-up tickets will be offered nightly on a first come, first serve basis.
