Young Artists with Elgar & Friends

About

Maestro Stephen J. Ramsey and the musicians of the Dakota Valley Symphony are thrilled to collaborate with some exceptional artists for the final concert of our 2018-19 season! After a rousing opening of Alexander Borodin’s overture to Prince Igor, we will welcome our Young Artist Competition winners – both outstanding pianists – to the Masquerade Dance Theater stage. Former contestants have pursued careers in music at some of our country’s finest collegiate institutions, and it is great fun to hear them during their earliest winning performances.

Nita Qiu - Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 2, Presto
Orion Kim - Mozart's Piano Concerto in D minor, Allegro Assai

For the closing half of our concert, the symphony will perform English composer Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations, narrated by Minnesotan playwright and storyteller Kevin Kling. This well-loved orchestral work is comprised of fourteen variations on an original theme, each acting as a musical sketch of a dear acquaintance. Every variation tells its own tale, and we are so very fortunate to have Kling not only share Elgar’s stories, but his own, infusing some Midwestern flair along the way. Won’t you join us for a most unforgettable evening?
