Life in Minnesota
Life is Better in Minnesota
These Minnesotans all have two things in common: they’re not from here, and they can’t imagine living anywhere else. Besides that, this diverse group of new residents couldn’t be more different. From Kat and Josh, who gave up NYC living for a more balanced life in Minneapolis, to William, who emigrated from Iraq and is raising his family in the idyll of Central Minnesota, these Minnesotans-by-choice want to tell you why life is better in the Star of the North.
"My community of friends have become like family"
Cherisse, Clinical Laboratory Geneticist at Mayo Clinic
Cherisse lives nearly 2,000 miles from where she grew up — the Bahamas. Today, Minnesota has become her home. From days spent working in a clinical genetics lab at the top-rated Mayo Clinic to evenings and weekends spent exploring Rochester with friends, see why Cherisse says that Minnesota “has always been worth the adventure.”
"My kids say I've never been more active"
Jim, VP of Engineering at Cirrus Aircraft
Jim has lived all over the United States — from Miami to Boston to Washington D.C. — but says he has “more interesting memories living in Minnesota than I do in the previous ten years.” From weekdays spent as the VP of Engineering for Cirrus Aircraft to weekends sailing our 10,000 lakes, Jim has built a Minnesota life that honors his love of the great outdoors.
"Moving to Minneapolis was the best move we’ve ever made"
Kat & Josh, Glass Artists at Hennepin Made
Kat and Josh are working artists in glass manufacturing, who never thought homeownership and 9-to-5 weekday hours could be a reality for them. Until they moved to Minnesota, that is. Kat and Josh love that Minneapolis is an arts-driven metropolis, where they can be “close to nature, but have a thriving city life, too.”
"Anything and everything I need is here"
William, Project Manager at Blattner
Originally from Iraq, William and his family moved to Sartell, Minnesota for his work in renewable energy, but also found a true community they hadn’t known they were looking for. A dreamer at heart, William is passionate about creating a bright, sustainable future for his children. See why he says that Minnesota is a “perfect fit for us.”
"It's almost like you need an excuse to stay indoors in Minnesota"
Ursula, Teacher at Carver Elementary School
When Ursula made the move from Florida to Minnesota she was surprised to find her new home was an even better source of Vitamin D. Even though she works at a school, she doesn’t have to wait for summer to embrace the outdoors.
