But that's only to be expected since Hackensack is a four-season destination offering more than just fun-filled crystal clear lakes.Unique shops, fine restaurants, golf courses and a whole winter's worth of ice fishing await you in Hackensack. Likewise, there's no shortage of opportunities to hike, bicycle, snowmobile or cross-country ski your way across our corner of the northwoods. Not only is it the halfway point on the new Paul Bunyan Trail, it is also the gateway to the Chippewa National Forest and home to the Deep Portage Nature Preserve.And while you're out and about, be sure to pay a visit to the shore of captivating Birch Lake where you'll find Paul Bunyan's sweetheart, Lucette, and their son Paul Jr. serenely surveying the local scene in anticipation of the second Wednesday of July, when they will just plain have a good time during our "Sweetheart Days" festivities.Indeed, the fame of the statuesque Miss Kensack seems to have spread far and wide. Today you can even find references to her in publications from the University of Minnesota, as well as some school textbooks. And you should have any remaining doubts as to the legitimacy of her union with the giant lumberjack, their official marriage license, together with other memorabilia, can be found proudly displayed at the Chamber of Commerce. But, remember, there's no need to wait until "Sweetheart Days" to pay us a visit. . . there's always plenty to do, Hackensack MN A Sweetheart of a Town!

We are located in the Visitor's Center between beautiful Birch Lake and the Paul Bunyan State Trail. Open May through August Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays 10:00am-3:00pm. September through April Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays 10:00am-2:00pm
