About
In 2007, Bruce and Dawn Rohl opened Aspelund Peony Gardens. Besides growing and selling peony plants, they have invested in planting 450 elderberry bushes, 150 apple trees, and 80 grape vines.
A long time wine making enthusiast, Bruce has been honored at the county fair for his wine. It runs in his blood, as they say, his ancestors were vintners in France.
The tasting room has been built on the north side of their home overlooking the gardens. They feature tastings of their fruit wines and bottles of wine for sale. The tasting room has a story of its own. Be sure to ask where the flooring came from and how that peacock came to be roosting in the room.
There is never a dull moment weekends at Aspelund Winery. You will enjoy the sounds of nature and the sounds of history as they plant, shell or grind corn, press fruit, pick elderberries, apples or grapes, and use their stirrup hoes on the weeds.
