About

Bearskin Lodge, a Gunflint Trail landmark since 1925. Open year round, Bearskin Lodge features a premier Northwoods cabin experience, 70km of cross country skiing or hiking right from your door, and a pristine wilderness setting with abundant wildlife all around. The perfect place for a family to share quality time together enjoying the outdoors.

All accommodations nestled lakeside with fireplaces or woodstoves, full kitchens and private docks. Bearskin Lodge is located on the renowned Gunflint Trail, 26 miles from the Lake Superior town of Grand Marais. Bearskin is the only resort on quiet four mile long East Bearskin Lake. Walleye, lake trout, northern, and smallmouth bass occupy the lake. The main lodge houses a gift shop, large stone fireplace, and sauna. Enjoy the private hot tub hut, scenic hiking trails, biking, fishing, canoeing along with summer nature and children's programs. Bearskin has a sand beach with a swimming area, and canoe and boat rentals are available. Winter brings 70+ km of groomed cross country ski trails (1.5 km of the trial is lighted) all starting from your cabin door. As quoted by Men's Journal, "Bearskin is a first class secluded, wilderness getaway for friends or couples". Enjoy true northwoods atmosphere in a comfortable wilderness setting. Mushers Erin Altemus and Matt Schmidt will be returning to Bearskin this winter to offer a limited schedule of dog sled trips on site at Bearskin. As many of you know, our long-time musher Erik Simula retired. (Guests often ask — Erik is doing great and is now director of a local historical society). Erik was a hard act to follow, but last year we found the team of Erin Altemus and Matt Schmidt, who offer an equally outstanding dog sled experience for Bearskin guests.

Enjoy fine dining at Bearskin Lodge on the Gunflint Trail on Saturday nights during the winter ski season, featuring Chef Derek Hofleldt from Loon Lake. Not here on a winter weekend? Stop in anytime on a winter's day for soup, chili, wine, beer, or espresso.

During the other seasons, Bearskin features "Take & Bake" pizzas, home-baked pies to bring to your cabin. A wide array of wine, beer, and espresso drinks are available to enjoy in the Main Lodge area.
