This 63-acre preserve contains the best remaining example of a vast complex of wet prairies and rich fens that existed in association with the Anoka Sand Plain at the time of Minnesota's original land survey (circa 1850). Its biodiversity value is astounding: the site contains 13 species of rare plants (7 of which are state-endangered, 4 MN-threatened and 2 MN-special concern) and fully 12% of the species that comprise Minnesota's native flora, some of which have not been documented in the state in 100 years. The predominant native plant community containing most of the site's rarest plants is a Graminoid Rich Fen, represented here by a low-lying wetland characterized by sedges growing in peat.
This site has no maintained trails or other recreational facilities.
