This 57-mile system of trails and ATV routes is located in northeast Minnesota and winds riders across rolling hills, through mature forest, and around historic mine pits and tailings piles. It connects the Alborn-Pengilly GIA ATV Trail and community of Hibbing on the south end to the communities of Chisholm in the middle and Side Lake on the north end. It also connects to the Taconite State Trail "Big Aspen Connection", an ATV trail segment that goes east towards Virginia and the USFS Big Aspen trails. Rated easy to moderately difficult, the Chisholm ATV Trail offers hills to climb and hairpin corners to maneuver. The ATV-friendly communities of Hibbing, Chisholm and Side Lake offer gas, lodging and food within riding distance from the trail. Parking and riding in Chisholm is allowed between 6 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. This trail is provided by the City of Chisholm and maintained by the Northern Traxx ATV Club.
Parking:
From Chisholm, go 1 mile north on Hwy. 73 to the intersection at Sever Rd./Hwy. 66.
From Chisholm, go north on Co. Rd. 5 for 10 miles to the intersection at Connors Rd./Co.
From Hwy 169 in Hibbing, go east on E 25th St .85 miles to Vic Power field on the north side of the road.
Parking is also available at the French Town Hall in Side Lake.
Winter Use: The Chisholm trail is generally plowed once or twice a winter. The temperature must be above zero in order to plow the trail and 4x4 ATVs are recommended, as it is not plowed down to the dirt.
Parking lot is plowed as needed but there are no vault toilets.
